Med spa guide

The listings AI reads before it names a med spa

The citation spine in order of impact, and the seven details that have to match everywhere.

Short answer

Assistants confirm a clinic exists by cross checking business listings. The ones that matter for a med spa, in order of impact, are Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Maps, Yelp, RealSelf, and the Allergan Alle and Galderma Aspire provider locators.

Being present is only half of it. Seven details have to match across every listing and your website: legal name, street address with suite, phone, website URL, hours, categories and the treatment list.

When two sources disagree, the safest thing a model can do is name a clinic whose sources agree. That is usually the whole reason a good clinic is invisible.

The med spa hub has the live city data behind this guide: what AI answers today in 20 US cities, and what we found on the websites there.

Why listings decide more than your website does

Your website is the only source that says what you want it to say, which is exactly why a model does not trust it on its own. Listings are the corroboration. They are where an assistant checks that the clinic is real, open, in the city it claims, and offering what the site says it offers.

This is also the part that quietly rots. A suite number changes, a second phone number gets added for a campaign, a treatment is dropped from the menu but not from Yelp, and nobody notices because no listing shows an error. The clinic simply stops being named.

The spine, in order of impact

  • 1. Google Business Profile

The biggest single source of local facts, and the one Google AI Mode leans on hardest. Complete every field: categories, services with descriptions, hours including holiday hours, attributes, photos, and the questions section. Answer your own frequently asked questions there in full sentences.

  • 2. Bing Places

ChatGPT search runs on Bing, and Bing Places is the listing almost no med spa has claimed. It takes about 20 minutes. This is the highest return on effort on the entire list.

  • 3. Apple Maps

Claim the place through Apple Business Connect. It feeds Siri and Apple's own local results, and a wrong pin here sends patients to the wrong parking lot.

  • 4. Yelp

Widely cited by assistants as a source about local services, and old Yelp data is a common cause of contradictions. Fix the treatment list and the hours even if you dislike the platform.

  • 5. RealSelf

The aesthetics specific source. Provider profiles, treatment pages and patient questions here are read as subject matter evidence about aesthetics specifically, which no general directory gives you.

  • 6. Allergan Alle provider locator

The manufacturer locator for Botox and Juvederm providers. Being listed connects your clinic to the treatment names patients are actually asking about.

  • 7. Galderma Aspire provider locator

The same for Dysport, Restylane and Sculptra. Between them, Alle and Aspire are the closest thing aesthetics has to an official register of who provides what.

Work down that list in order. A clinic that gets the first three right and skips the rest is still in far better shape than one that spreads itself across 50 generic directories.

The seven details that must match everywhere

  • Business name

One exact string, the one on your signage and your site header. No city or treatment stuffed into it on one platform and not another.

  • Street address

Identical formatting, including Suite versus Ste and the presence or absence of a period. Pick one form and copy it everywhere.

  • Phone number

One primary number everywhere. If marketing gave you a call tracking number, put it on the website only and keep the real line on the listings, or you have created a contradiction on purpose.

  • Website URL

The same canonical form on every profile, with or without www, and pointing at the homepage rather than a campaign landing page that may disappear.

  • Hours

The same on every platform and on the site, updated for holidays. Contradictory hours are the fastest way to look unreliable to a model checking two sources.

  • Categories

Medical spa as the primary category, with secondary categories that reflect what you actually do. Keep the choice consistent across platforms that offer the same option.

  • Treatment list

The same treatments, described with the same words, on the site and on every profile. If a treatment is on your site it should be in your Google services list, and if you stopped offering it, remove it everywhere on the same day.

A simple way to audit yours in an hour

Open a spreadsheet with one row per platform and one column per detail. Fill it in by looking at each live listing, not from memory. Every cell that differs from your website is a defect, and you will usually find between three and ten.

Search your clinic name in quotes and look for duplicate listings, which are common after a move or a rebrand. Merge or remove the duplicates, because two profiles with different addresses are worse than one imperfect profile.

Redo this quarterly, and always the same week you change a phone number, a suite, your hours or your treatment menu.

What this is not

It is not buying links from directory sites, and it is not blasting your details to a hundred low quality aggregators. That practice is dead, and on a young domain it is actively harmful.

The list above is short on purpose. Seven places, accurate, beats seventy places, approximate, every time.

The short version

What to do this week.

Six things, in order. None of them needs a developer, an agency or a budget, and every one of them is checkable by you.

  1. 01Claim Bing Places if you have not, this week.
  2. 02Build the audit spreadsheet: seven platforms across the top, seven details down the side.
  3. 03Fix the business name and address formatting first, then the phone number.
  4. 04Copy your treatment list from your website into your Google Business Profile services, word for word.
  5. 05Claim or update your Alle and Aspire provider locator entries.
  6. 06Search your clinic name in quotes and remove or merge any duplicate listings.

Questions

What med spa owners ask about this.

Which listing should we fix first?
Google Business Profile, because it feeds the most answers, then Bing Places, because ChatGPT search runs on Bing and almost nobody has claimed theirs. Those two take one afternoon between them.
Do we need a paid citation service?
No. The list that matters for a med spa is short enough to do by hand, and doing it by hand is how you find the contradictions. Bulk citation blasts add noise, not trust.
Our address changed. What breaks?
Everything, quietly. Change it on the website and all seven listings on the same day, in the same format, and check for a leftover duplicate profile at the old address a week later.
Can we use a call tracking number on our listings?
Keep the real line on the listings and put the tracking number on the website if you must have one. A phone number that appears in one source and nowhere else reads as a mismatch.
How often should we check all this?
Quarterly as a routine, and immediately after any change to hours, address, phone, staff or treatment menu. Most of the damage we find in screenings comes from a change nobody propagated.
