Short answer

Most plumbing questions are urgent and narrow: a leaking water heater, a slow drain, a gas line, a leak nobody can find. Each one is answered from whichever plumber's page names that exact job, so a plumber can be named for one problem and missing for the next.

Some of the gaps run the wrong way. Of the 409 plumbing homepages we read on September 15, 2026, leak detection is named on 42% of the sites AI named and 50% of the rest. Same day service is 10% against 25%. Saying you do a job is common. On its own it does not decide who gets named.

That is why our guarantee is counted over 10 agreed questions, not one. One name for the best plumber can be luck. Being named across most of the ten is a position you can check each month.

The pattern

Why one name is luck.

There is room in every city we checked. Google AI Mode named at least 3 plumbers in all 60 cities on September 15, 2026, and 5.1 on average. The hard part is not being found at all. It is being the name that fits the exact problem a homeowner types.

Naming a job on the homepage is not what splits the two groups. Leak detection, same day service, free estimates and commercial work all show up less often on the named side. Commercial plumbing is 43% of named sites against 57% of the rest. The named sites are not longer either: the middle named homepage has 962 words and the middle of the rest has 1,045.

What does split them is how a homeowner gets through. An online booking route is on 56% of named sites and 33% of the rest, and job software of some kind on 31% against 13%. This is a count from one day, not a cause. It does mean a plumber named as the best plumber can still lose the Sunday question, the price question or the leak question, because each one reads a different page.

Questions

What people ask about this data.

Where do these plumbing numbers come from?
Two of our own runs. On September 15, 2026 we asked Google AI Mode for the best plumber in 60 US cities and kept the names it gave. On September 15, 2026 we tried 443 plumbing homepages and read 409. Every share here is counted from those files. None of it is bought or estimated.
Can I use these numbers?
Yes, at no cost. Credit KKV Labs and link to this page so readers can see the dates.
Is a plumber who gets named a better plumber?
No. The names are what one AI answer said on one day. That is not a ranking, and it is not a view on anyone's work.
Where do the observed examples come from?
Each of the ten questions was asked word for word in Google AI Mode on October 2, 2026, logged out, with the town set to Abilene, Texas. The example quotes how the answer opened and lists the place cards it showed. That is one town on one day; the same question elsewhere can name other plumbers.
