Where the answer is pulled from: A homepage or storm page that names storm, hail or insurance claim work in the same breath as the company's own reviews. 69 percent of the 520 roofer homepages read for the index mention storm, hail or insurance claim content at all.
Observed example: In Charlottesville, VA, Google AI Mode's answer put Apex Roofing, LLC under the heading "Best for Repairs and Storm Damage," describing it as praised for thorough initial inspections, providing photographic updates of structural repairs during the process, and helping clients deal directly with insurance adjusters (tools/aimode-roofers/charlottesville-va.txt).

Where the answer is pulled from: A page that states a number. Only 15 percent of the 520 roofer homepages read for the index show a price on the homepage or link a pricing page, and this is one of the few lines where being named does not help: 14 percent among named roofers against 16 percent among the rest.
Observed example: Not sourced. No file read for this draft quotes a roof price. The closest any answer comes is financing language: in Clearwater, FL, Dean Roofing Company's entry says it offers 12 months same as cash promotional financing on new roofs, with no dollar figure attached (tools/aimode-roofers/clearwater-fl.txt). That absence is the finding: a price question has nothing to answer with until a roofer's own page publishes one.

Where the answer is pulled from: A stated warranty length, usually tied to a manufacturer certification tier. 61 percent of read homepages mention warranty language, and GAF Master Elite is the single most claimed certification tier at 10 percent.
Observed example: In Charlottesville, VA, Roof Top Services LLC's answer entry says it is a GAF Master Elite Installer capable of providing up to 50 year manufacturer warranties (tools/aimode-roofers/charlottesville-va.txt).

The pattern

Why one name is luck.

The index behind this library found that 59 of 60 checked cities came back GREEN, meaning Google AI Mode named at least 3 roofers in every one of them. There is almost always room in the answer. The question is which page earns the slot for which question, and the numbers say it changes by question.

Claiming a manufacturer certification tier does nothing to separate named roofers from unnamed ones: 26 percent of named roofers claim one against 25 percent of the rest. But warranty length, the actual number a homeowner wants, is answered from that same certification tier when a company states it plainly, the way Roof Top Services did above. The badge does not win the best roofer question. The number behind the badge can win the warranty question.

The same split shows up across the other lines. A price shown on the homepage is 14 percent among named roofers and 16 percent among the rest, slightly higher on the unnamed side, so being named for best roofer is no guarantee of being named for how much does a roof cost. Financing, metal roofing, storm and hail content each live on their own pages, and each question reads whichever page exists. A roofer who wins the general question and never publishes a financing page, a metal roofing page or a licence number is set up to lose the other nine.

Where does this data come from?

From our own screening, run the same way for every report. We ask Google AI Mode the same best roofer in [city] question in each city from a fresh logged out session, then we open the roofing companies it names, one by one, and read their homepages. The Roofing AI Visibility Index has crawled 569 sites and read 520 of them, across 60 cities, with 277 companies named. Nothing is bought, licensed or estimated.

Can I cite these numbers?

Yes, free of charge. Name KKV Labs as the source and link to the report page so your reader can see the date and the method.

Is a roofer named in the answer better than one that is not?

No, and we do not say that anywhere. The lists are a dated snapshot of what one AI answer said on one day. They are not rankings, not endorsements, and not a judgement about any roofer's work.

How often is this updated?

We re-run the checks as we screen new markets and re-check old ones. Every figure on the reports is computed from the data file at build time, and every AI answer carries the date it was captured.
