The finding, in three sentences

Google AI Mode named 85 plastic surgery practices across 21 cities on September 8, 2026, 4 per city on average and never fewer than 2.

On October 2, 2026 we opened 130 practice homepages and counted 114: 38 belong to practices the answers named and 76 to everyone else.

The named practices show more video and write down financing more often. Board certification is said on almost every site, so it does not set anyone apart. None of this is about quality of care.

The findings

Four things the data actually shows.

Each one is a check you can run on your own homepage. Every share is read from the 114 homepages we counted on October 2, 2026.

21 of 21

AI named practices in every city we asked

We asked Google AI Mode the same question in 21 US cities and got practice names back each time, 85 in all. Most answers named 3 to 6. In 3 cities the answer named only two: Savannah, Tallahassee and Salem.

55% and 30%

The named practices show more video

A video plays on the homepage of 55% of the practices the answers named and 30% of the rest. A YouTube link is on 66% against 45%. It is a same day reading on a small group, not a cause.

Source: KKV Labs crawl, 114 plastic surgery homepages counted, October 2, 2026.

74% and 53%

They write down how to pay

Financing is mentioned on 74% of the named homepages and 53% of the others, and a financing page is linked from 53% against 32%. Cost is one of the ten patient questions we track for this specialty.

Source: KKV Labs crawl, 114 plastic surgery homepages counted, October 2, 2026.

84%

Board certification does not set anyone apart here

84% of the homepages say board certified, so it cannot separate one practice from the next. It is stated on 74% of the named practices and 89% of the rest. This counts what a homepage says. It says nothing about anyone's training.

The answers

How many practices make the answer.

In every city we typed the same thing into Google AI Mode: "best plastic surgeon in [City] [State]". All 21 answers named practices, 2 at the fewest and 6 at the most.

That short list is the whole answer for that question on that day. It is what the engine said, not a judgement of anyone's work.

Download the city data (CSV). Every city, every practice the answer named, and the date.

The city sample
21 US cities across 14 states. We found 121 plastic surgery websites in them, 1 to 10 candidates each, and the screener opened and read 107. The homepage crawl below also reads the sites of named practices that were not on those city lists, which is why it counts more.
The AI answers
One question per city, "best plastic surgeon in [City] [State]", asked in Google AI Mode from a fresh logged out session on September 8, 2026. We wrote down every practice the answer named, in the order it named them. Answers change, so this is a dated snapshot, not a ranking.
The homepage crawl
On October 2, 2026, 24 days after the answers, we opened 130 plastic surgery homepages. 13 turned the crawler away and 3 gave back nothing we could use. The crawler reads the homepage HTML for known scripts, links, markup and words, so a practice can use a tool without it showing here. Every share is a floor.
Named versus unnamed
The named group is the 38 counted sites whose practice Google AI Mode listed in its own city's answer. The other 76 are everyone else. The comparison shows what the named group happened to have. It does not show why they were named, and this page never says it does.
How a city was coloured
By the length of the answer alone: 18 cities had three or more practices named and 3 had two. No city was coloured by reading the answer's wording. Read the practice list, not the label.

Caveats

What this data cannot tell you.

Read these before you quote a number from this page. The sample is small, and these are its limits.

Nothing here is about quality of care
This report counts what AI answers said and what homepages display. It says nothing about any surgeon's skill, safety record or patient outcomes, and being named or not named in an answer is not a measure of any of those.
A small sample
21 cities and 114 homepages, with 38 in the named group. One practice moves a named share by about 3 points. Quote the shares with their site counts, and never as twice as likely.
24 days between the answers and the crawl
The answers were captured on September 8, 2026 and the homepages read on October 2, 2026. A site can change in that time, so the comparison is between the answer on one day and the homepage on a later one.
44 named practices have no website we could match
The answers gave 85 practice names. We matched a website to 41 of them and read 38 of those. The rest stay in the city table, which is built from names, and are left out of the named versus unnamed comparison, which is built from websites.
10 matches were thrown out before we published
Every matched site was checked by hand against the name the answer gave. A match was removed when it turned out to be a different business, or when the page could not be read to check it. We never kept a guess we could not confirm.
Homepage only, so every share is a floor
A price on a procedure page, a membership named on an about page or a device named on a treatment page is not counted. A new or custom tool reads as nothing at all.
No speed numbers, on purpose
The crawl ran from India. Response times are left out, because from that distance they measure the distance, not the site.

Questions

What people ask about this data.

What is the Plastic Surgery AI Visibility Index?
A first-party count of plastic surgery AI visibility: which practices Google AI Mode named in 21 US cities on September 8, 2026, and what the crawler could read on 114 practice homepages on October 2, 2026. Nothing is bought, licensed or estimated.
Does AI name only one plastic surgeon in a city?
Not in this sample. Every answer named at least 2 practices. 3 cities got two names and 18 got three or more. The most common answer named 4, in 7 cities.
What did the named practices have that others did not?
On their homepages, more video and more about paying. A video plays on 55% of the named practices and 30% of the rest, and financing is mentioned on 74% against 53%. It is a comparison on a small group, not a cause.
Does saying board certified help a practice get named by AI?
We cannot see that it does, because nearly everyone says it. 84% of the homepages state board certification, 74% of the named practices and 89% of the rest. Patients check it, so it belongs on the page, but it does not tell the two groups apart.
Which booking and practice software do plastic surgeons use?
On the 114 homepages we counted, 75% offer a booking route and 22% show practice, booking or patient software we could detect. The most common were TouchMD at 8%, HighLevel at 5% and Weave at 4%. A tool behind a button is not counted, so these are floors.
Do plastic surgery websites block AI crawlers?
None of the sites we read do. Of the 112 robots.txt files, not one shuts out an AI crawler, and 97% of homepages carry structured data. Access is open across this sample.
Can I cite these numbers?
Yes, free of charge. Name KKV Labs as the source and link to this report so your reader can see the dates and the method. The city table is on the page as a CSV file too.
Is a practice named in the answer better than one that is not?
No, and we do not say that anywhere. The lists are a dated snapshot of one AI answer on one day. They are not rankings, not endorsements and not a statement about anyone's surgery.
